I dun read the papers often, as such, i get surprised by little things. i was reading zao bao in the toilet when i came across this article on students being able to win a ipod nano. being a (kiasu)singaporean, i decided to check it out. Basically, students are about to accumulate points in their ezlink card just by tapping out when alighting the bus. The points then can be used to bid for prizes such as ipod nano on the website.
That simple?
No. As if Sbs wasnt stupid enough to rise the fare prices, they wrote down the reason why.
This problem only lies with students as if adults do not tap out at the exit, they would be charged the maximum amount for a bus fare, $2.40 i believe. However, student fares are capped at 45 cents for all rides,except express buses. So this led to more and more students not tapping out when alighting, particularly at peak sch periods where buses are always packed with students. The reason was that students had a lot of things to carry and thus, find it inconvienent to tap out and see no reason to, cuz there's nth to lose.
Well, apparently, there is something to lose. For the bus companies that is. When students dun tap out when alighting, the information is sent to the bus interchanges and it is reflected as the buses being all filled up and unable to service more commuters. So bus terminals sent out 1 or 2 more buses to solve the problem. However, that is not the case, buses often return to terminals empty. This in a long run would result in more buses being on the road=wastage of fuel and manpower=lost in profits for the bus companies.
Students listen up, this is our finest chance to strike back at those bloodsuckers. Think of it as revenge for the adults for the recent price hikes. DUN GET TEMPTED BY A IPOD NANO, IT IS NOT IMPORTANT. The bus service industries needs to be taught a lesson by us emerging leaders of the future society! The benefits are OVERWHELMING, u no longer need to waste time rumaging through your books and stationaries to search for your wallet while the whole bus looks at you with their ferocious eyes nor do u need to wait too long for a bus, cuz they will be fooled by the computers to sending out more buses. LONG HAIL SHORTER WAITING TIME.
